The Pioneer Woman, who I will blog about later, has a friend. Her friend is Jaden. Jaden has a new cookbook – the Steamy Kitchen. The Steamy Kitchen offers simple Asian cooking for the non-Asian cooking inclined (me). What a great idea!
When PW took on Jaden’s beef and broccoli, it looked so yummy that I knew I had to give it a try.
It was simple and took only 30 minutes tops — here’s the Recipe, via Pioneer Woman.

First, I sliced the tender flank steak. (I fought the urge to marinate for fajitas).
See the rest of my whipping up of Jaden’s beef and broccoli after the jump

Then, I chopped the broccoli and sang, “There is a lady I know…if I didn’t know her, she’s be the lady I didn’t know. But, lately she went downtown, she bought some broccoli….and she brought it – hooommmee…she’s chopping broccolee…choppin’ broccoligh…choppin’ broccoli-i-high” – Dana Carvey

Next, I pressed the garlic; this garlic press rocks. No smelly fingers.

I mixed the marinade and added the flank steak. It had to sit for 10 minutes.

Then, I prepared the stir fry sauce.

Setting the steak and stir fry sauce aside, I then steamed the broccoli. When the broccoli was bright green, I set it aside.

Making sure the pan was dry, I then added oil and garlic to the pan. The garlic frangrance filled the room.

After 30 seconds, I added the steak. Fried it on one side and then flipped to fry the other.

I added the stir fry mixture to the pan and coated the beef. Mine was a little on the watery side, so I let it cook down before I added the broccoli. I tossed the veggies and beef around to coat.

And, then I topped small bowls of rice with the beef and broccoli.
Review: simple, delicious, flavorful, and yes, I will make this again. Essentially, yum!
*Caveat: Little brother didn’t like it – but he doesn’t like any Asian cuisine. (More leftovers for me!)

of course he didn’t like it!
you should make some of the Indian food the old roomies taught you…mmm Indian food…
Do you have the Steamy Kitchen cookbook? Curious if it has an Indian or Thai recipes….everything we’ve tried has been really labor intensive.
I agree….mmmm Indian!
I don’t have the Steamy Kitchen yet. But, after this – it’s definitely on my list! Indian food sounds yummy!
I just tried the chicken with teriyaki dipping sauce from The Steamy Kitchen and it was fabulous! http://happylifehappywife.wordpress.com/2010/07/08/panko-crusted-chicken-with-sweet-citrus-teriyaki-sauce/
But I think I’ll have to try this recipe as well because Beef and Broccoli is my favorite!!
It’s so yummy & so easy! PW was right – a little of the ingredients go a long way – so use sparingly! Thanks & enjoy! — BC
